Helio Castro-Neves pole position is chassis manufacturer Lola’s first since Andre Ribeiro’s pole at Toronto in 1996. The last Lola Champ Car victory was by Michael Andretti at Vancouver in 1996. This is also Castro-Neves' fourth top-four start of the season and Hogan Racing’s second career pole, the first was by Dario Franchitti at Toronto in 1997.

Starting at the next race, the Medic Drug Grand Prix of Cleveland Presented by Firstar at Burke Lakefront Airport, all crew members who go over the wall during a Champ Car pit stop will be required to wear helmets, but they were delivered to all the teams here at Milwaukee and most wore them.

Another new rule: front wheels are tethered to the car by a tie that runs along the front of the bottom suspension arm.Later in the season even back wheels will be required to be tethered.
